Wednesday

Went to Thatcher early to begin two-day pre-school convention, part I. Beginning last year we have had the curriculum part of our pre-school convention in the Spring-that gives us a running start at class preparations-we can soak in through the summer and hit the ground running in the Fall. In mid-August we’ll have part II of the per-school-crank them up for the year with Priesthood leader talks, workshops in how-to, etc. the convention here and now was a real good one. We didn’t bring our wives in-just the teachers. We had Lincoln Goodman, Ronald Harward & Ethel Bundy. Reed Richens from St. David, and Ted DeMille & Lecter Broadhead from Miami & Globe, respectively. Then Glenn Brown, Ft. Thomas, Gary Allred, Pima, Lung Johnson, Thatcher, Roger Porter & Joe Steward, Safford. We also had a full-time man in Silver City, N.M., this year, but he left early to go back to Alaska-dropped out on us. His name was Glen Vernon-a real good teacher but a poor administrator, and besides he didn’t enjoy teaching kids all day. Meanwhile, back at the convention, we had the first day of coordinator’s talk (about ½ day), then curriculum & some committee reports. It was a great day. After the day was ended, we checked into the Sandia Motel-the out-of-towners that is. Then we all gathered at Johnsons for a real great barbeque chicken dinner. Karen, Shirley Porter & Malene Steward were the chefs. Then we played volleyball ‘til late. I haven’t laughed so much for years. A great group of guys!
